On Mars and Other Close Encounters

On Mars and Other Close Encounters

A Poem by Mary C

I contemplate things
like theorems and vegans
and loss.
I tire of interpreting
and misinterpreting.
Sometimes it's easier to
accept there are no answers
and let go.

Mars came close this year
but her mystique is gone.
We know, she's red from mineral rust.
I wonder.
Was she ever new,
untarnished?

Each morning,
I glance at the southern sky .
Mars is edging away.
