AT THE BREAK OF DAWN

AT THE BREAK OF DAWN

A Poem by Marvin

At the break of dawn
we rise with fresh hopes and faith
spirits that went to bed in a frown
like the sun, rise from that down

at the break of dawn,
dreams are picked up anew
polished, rethought, reborn
and we cling to beliefs, in our own view
as to our burdens, our hearts scream, be-gone

with the break of each dawn
dawns a reminder of who we are
we ask, are we grown?
or are lines drawn from where we are?
Is the old cloak thrown?
Or are we stuck where we were?

At the break of each dawn men are bound to die, fall down
a responsibility you can't defy
what is left are names engraved on stones
beneath lies a set of bones
the cycle of life, the end
the end you never see
for those we send
never make it across the sea
and back.

so we go to bed once more
wait another dawn to break
in the hope that our ship doesn't wreck
but gets us ashore
