My Mistake

My Mistake

A Poem by Benedict Mdluli

Was it because I was born in the world

filled with cruelty, Oh! That I was received

by hands of man who detested nobility.

It was my fault I loved with all my heart,

A strange woman who broke it all and left no part.

Bad as it sounds my soul is still intact in my

sacred heart.

Is it my education or riches that has to me

attracted thieves? Beautiful house and nice

cars but I still can't sleep, thinking out loud.

One eye open on watch for the night men,

walking around.

Oh! My smile and kindness has perplexed

them and left them totally blinded.

They start to believe I am a fool but they

notice not that they are my food for a feed,

and I am getting full.

I stand amazed as I wonder what my flaws

may be? As I discover them not I still maintain

that they are gross. Love me if you do & can,

Hate me if you can & it's your loss.
