![]() Chapter 5A Chapter by Molento Both Eliena and
Molento awoke suddenly in the early hours of the morning. They decided that
they should get going because they were both awake. They ate breakfast in
silence, Molento because of the sliver of memories that he had received from
himself, and Eliena because she was still considering the weird dream she had
had last night. When they set off, walking this time, because Molento's wings
were not accustomed to having to carry the weight of two people, both he and
Eliena were silent. They headed north because Eliena had told Molento of a town
that they could stop at that was only a day's walk from where they were. In the
town, they could buy gear and get more precise directions to the elves. Hours passed in
silence while both thought. Slowly, they both became aware of the other's
silence and they realized that neither one of them had spoken much that day.
Finally, Molento asked "Why are you so quiet, Eliena, you've been more
quiet today than yesterday." "Oh, I had
a weird dream last night," Eliena explained and told Molento about the
dream that she had had. "Why
didn't you tell me sooner," Molento exclaimed, stopping suddenly, "If
you had a dream about me and my past, why didn't you mention it sooner, instead
of keeping it to yourself?" "Well,
because it scared me." "Why did
it scare you," Molento asked, calming down because he noticed that Eliena
seemed very upset, "Where you scared that I was actually like that?" "Uh-huh." "Well, as
far as I can tell, I am not insane, but I had a dream similar to yours and I
regained some of my memories, horrible memories of that time that I had gone
insane, but also a little glimmer of hope, it seems that it all stopped right
before I woke up in that crater, but I still can't remember how I got to be in
the crater." "Well
that's a relief, knowing that you're not insane anymore, but I do wonder how
you came to sanity again." "So do I ,
so do I. Lets hurry up and get to that town, I want to know more, and the
fastest way to the elves is by asking directions." The pair continued on their way, oblivious to the fact that they were being followed. After another couple of hours walking, the pair arrived at the town of Mirana. They walked through deserted streets and alleyways. "Is it always this deserted, Molento asked, "or did something happen?" "This town
recently had a plague," Eliena explained, "so most of the people here
died. There are now only a few hundred people left in what used to be a town of
about one thousand." "Oh, so
where are we going?" "We
are going to the town square, that is where the inhabitants gathered
after the plague, and we will have the best chance to find supplies and
directions." "Ok, lead
the way." The pair
continued on their way, heading towards the town square. When they got there,
they found a thriving marketplace bustling with people and vendors lining the
streets. "Its very busy for a town that recently had a plague,"
Molento wondered, "Aren't they still scared of a re-emergence?" "The
plague was not that recent, but the town still has yet to recover in
population." "Ah,"
Molento said, flicking his wrist as out, as if by instinct. In his hand appears
a leather pouch with a drawstring. "Whoa,
what's that and where did it come from?" Eliena asked. Molento himself was
surprised. "I think it is my money pouch, enchanted to only appear when I
call it," Molento mused, "I wonder how much I have." He opened
the pouch and looked in, and finding empty space. "That's weird, it seems
to be empty, but something tells me that it isn't." He reached in and his arm,
up to the elbow disappeared into it. "Whoa,
that's weird," both Eliena and Molento say at the same time. Molento pulled
his hand out of the pouch, and in it was a pile of golden coins with a
lightning bolt on each of them. "Wow, are
those solid gold?" Eliena breathed, "That must be a fortune." "I...I
think they are solid gold, and there's a lot more of them in here. Here take
this," Molento said, handing Eliena some coins, "we'll split up and
meet back here at dusk." The two split
up to go do some shopping for the trip, each buying supplies. When they met
back up at dusk, they both still had coins left over, even though they had
bought alot. "What are
you wearing, Molento?" Eliena exclaims when she sees the new clothes that
Molento was wearing. He had bought the exact same outfit that the dream Molento
had been wearing, minus the leather straps. "Oh, this?
I just saw it and it looked cool so I bought it," Molento said, feeling
slightly self- conscious. "That is
almost the exact same thing that you were wearing in the dream I had, when you
were insane." "Oh well,
it looks cool and I'm keeping it." "O-ok,"
Eliena said uneasily, "It's just that that's a big coincidence, that's
all." They walked off
in search of an inn to stay the night in. Eventually, they found one that had a
vacancy. "Only one
room!?" Eliena exclaimed, "But that means..." "I'll take
the floor," Molento offered, "that is the right thing to do, after
all." "Ok, ok,
let's go." As they walked
to the stairs in the back of the room, they were being watched by a man in a
cloak in the corner of the room. "I've
found you, daughter," David muttered, "and you are coming back home
with me." © 2011 Molento |
