Belly-Button

Belly-Button

A Poem by Marshall

the entire universe entered through this
umbilical chord
strumming in tune
its lifeblood housed
in place now.

cut
when the cry woke you
to life
and now
you cover the connection
afraid
to show you could exist
only through this orifice

the central forces
deposited
in you as you strode
into your leg and life span
from birth to death
unconnected
yet connected with being reminded.
