Mighty Mermay Mighty Me

Mighty Mermay Mighty Me

A Poem by Geotryx Nauzelle
"

Is it romance?

"

She is a lost cause like me

Fathoms the depths of the sea

In search of something

To grasp and uphold

To lift into the sunlight

And touch the untold

She wants the pristine

Above the surface where

She can be free

I see her rise

Her tail splash in the dark

Eyes glimmer like a cat on the street

Needle teeth through her smile

She looks right at me

The days I swam

To study the sea

Watch sea turtles

That swam with me

I met her in the depths

Lost in the dark

Her eyes shined my way

The fish I found

Had gone away

Left all alone

Until she came

Webbed hands touch mine

So she surfaced me

I gasped for air

And looked down to the

Depths of the dark sea

Reflecting the stars

So bright underneath

There so far

Two stars in line

They were eyes

Before she would cry

The water took her hand

Leading her away

Trapped under the oceans

No one dreamt to stay

Where skulls of ships

Rested in peace

The dead and the dying

Lay in the beach

She lived down there

Unknown and unheard of

Where one could not breathe

So I took one last breath

Sank below the reef

Past the turtles

Beyond the fish

Only to find her weep

She wanted out

She wanted skies

She wanted freedom

She even wanted me

I could not breathe

It was not necessary

Because I grasped her hand

In this short time

We swam up to land

But there she could not breathe

Not like me

She could not see

Not like me

Still I held her hand

Afraid of the deep

Where they tugged on her tail

To keep her from leaving

I whispered to her

We will escape

I have learnt so much

Of the dark overcast

The sea gave

For the fish that flee

And the corals they be

The cuddle fish that hide

From the depths of the sea

That make the living cry

I have studied the darkness

I have learnt of the sea

Being a

marine biologist

Wonders it brings

But meeting a mermay

As beautiful as she

Starlight so powerful

Over this beach

I will not let go

She will see

The skies we get

The grass we touch

The peace land can bring

So we hold hands

Never let go

I want her to feel loved

Get past the unknown

She lets the water

Wash up her tail

Grasp her scales

Take her webbed hands

Leave her stranded

For the ocean

Finally leaves her be

Her body has settled

Dark skin that seeps

Because her mer is gone

Now she is with me

Her legs wobble

Like a newborn horse

Still she stands

Boulder than any force

And we take hands

Once more

Set off on land

Fathom the stars

Touch the grass

Remove all scars

I look into her eyes

And see the universe

reflecting

No longer a lost cause

She is happy
