BusybodiesA Poem by Poet PittinixThis is an intriguing love poem.“You can tell that she’s feigning affection for him.” “He’s such a fool to be in
love with her.” That’s what people say
when they see us together. They don’t know how we
feel about each other. People gossip and say
these things about you: “She’s definitely up to no
good, and he’s blind to it.” “She’s just a gold digger
like most of the other girls.” But, darling, I see you
differently in my eyes. The busybodies make these
remarks about me: “He must be out of his
mind to think she loves him.” “He won’t find happiness
with her in his life.” We can’t allow them to
destroy our relationship. Some nosey parkers in the
community say, “What is a teenage girl
doing with a middle-aged man?” “She should find someone
in her age group to date.” But that’s the last thing
you want to hear. They stare at us and speak
low to one another. I’m not daunted by what
people think about me. Backbiters should mind
their own business. They’re jealous of me because
I have a young lover. The way I love you today will
never change Even if the things they
say about you are true. They’re in no position to
criticise our love, For they don’t have a better love than ours. © 2024 Poet PittinixAuthor's Note
