The Wooded Entrance

The Wooded Entrance

A Chapter by Mark Church

After the events at home earlier in the day Daniel had decided that he needed to go put and get some fresh air to clear his head and with Bucksy looking at every move he made he decided to take his dog for a long walk.
"Mum??." shouted Daniel as he waited for a response but his mum didn't reply he assumed she was back as he heard the door slam shut earlier,
"I'm going out for a bit I'm taking Bucksy for a wa......",
But no sooner had he spoke the words only dogs could understand than he suddenly felt as sudden rush of air followed by himself flying up in the air and landing in the floor in a heap.
"Cripes, what the heck was that?" A puzzled Daniel said as he tried to make sense of his sudden ability to fly through the air, no sooner had he started to make his way up then the slobbering face of Bucksy stood towering over him like an enemy who had defeated a rival, his lead clamped in between his teeth and his long tail wagging furiously, already knowing what was going to happen,
"Thanks Bucks, that's just great" He gingerly got to his feet all the while Bucksy was right in his face reminding him of what he was supposed to do,
" Yeah yeah Bucksy, I know, I know, but please get out of my face so just can get up you big stupid lump!!!" And with that Bucksy let out a whine as he retreated to the safety of the front room and sat down patiently waiting for Daniel to take him out for his daily evening walk.
As Daniel checked himself over for any signs of damage Lillie clomped down the stairs to see her brother rubbing himself down and looked on in a confused state and spoke,
"Oh it's you Daniel, I heard a load of noise and thought mum had come back"
Daniel looked upset as he replied  "oh she's not back yet? I was hoping she was as I wanted to say sorry for the school thing"
"Well as you can see she's still out, so well done to you pea brain...." she replied,
" So I hope your happy with yourself for upsetting her"
"I didn't mean to upset her so stop blaming me " Daniel angrily replied, Bucksy was sitting up taking notice of what was going on, lead still firmly clamped in his jaws and his head was moving side to side like a spectator at a tennis match as he was watching the two siblings shout at each other, it was almost like he understood what was going on, then all of a sudden his attention had shifted as he heard a noise somewhere outside getting closer and closer, his tail started wagging faster and faster as he seemed to sense it was a 'friend'.
Then the doorbell rang and that stopped the arguing in its tracks as Bucksy barked uncontrollably with excitement
"Woof woof woof" He went, and bolted across the front room towards the front door once again taking Daniels feet from beneath him.
"Bucksy you blooming idiot, that's twice now!!!" Daniel snapped as he lay on the floor again trying to get up to answer the door,
But the dog was still barking and wagging and barking and wagging as his tail kept hitting Daniel in the face.
"Ouch that hurts, stop it or I'll throw you out dog", Daniel gingerly got to his feet as the doorbell was still being rung,
He opened the door to be greeted by the chocolate covered face of Harvey who was still stuffing chocolate into it as the door opened.
"Hello mate" mumbled Harvey as he grinned a big chocolate grin at Daniel.
"Harvey... why???" Said Daniel as he couldn't help but laugh at his chocolate covered friend.
"Can I come in please, think I need to wash my hands..." Harvey said lifting up his hands to show exactly how much chocolate was stuck to his hands.
"Your hands!!!!" Laughed Daniel, "think you need more than that mate, take a look in the mirror will you"
Harvey looked into the mirror and burst out laughing as he said "I wondered why people were looking at me funny when I was walking over here, now I know.haha", so off the boys went into the kitchen so Harvey could get washed up, Lillie scowled at Daniel as they walked past her on the stairs, knowing that it was him that had caused their mum to walk out and she stomped off up the stairs to finish listening the song that was blaring out of her bedroom.
"So mate..." said Harvey as he started washing himself clean of his chocolaty snack covered face and hands "where your mum then??, I'm guessing she heard about us skiving off school today".
Daniel looked glumly at Harvey and replied "she completely lost it with me earlier when I got in and told me this was all my fault then she stormed off out of the door and we haven't seen her since".
"Oh right" Harvey replied with a guilty look on his face " I guess the fact that we were together didn't help the situation much, sorry mate, I'm sure she will be back soon".
"Yeah I hope so mate..." sighed Daniel as he carried on "it is my fault though but I told her I can't stand that place and don't want to stay somewhere that is getting me down".
"Blimey mate that's a bit deep, do you want some tissue? Thought you were going to cry for a minute.hahaha"
Harvey laughed out loud as Daniels face turned to one of someone with a cheeky glint in his eyes as he flew round the table and grabbed Harvey before he could get away and put his head under the tap so he got soaked.
"Take that Harvey!!" Shouted Daniel as his friend was submerged under the stream of running water, Daniel laughed as Harvey struggled to get free from Daniels strong grip
"Blllbbb" said Harvey as his mouth took in a load of water which he then broke free and turned round to squirt it straight into Daniels face which stopped him laughing instantly and he chased Harvey out into the garden and pounced on him like a tiger attacking it's prey.
"That will teach you!!" Exclaimed Daniel as he held down his friend who was now covered in mud and grass from being so wet.
"Nice one mate, now look at the state of me, mum will kill me again now, I only just got changed into these after what you did at school earlier now look at me!!" Whined Harvey as Daniel eventually let him up off the ground still laughing at the state of him.
"You started it so I'm finishing it!.haha" laughed Daniel as he walked towards the edge of his garden and looked out into the woods beyond his house.
Harvey wobbled over still trying to rid himself of the grass and dirt on his newly changed clothes buy he just seemed to smudge it everywhere.
"Oh great it's stained them now, mum's going to freak when she sees me like this" Harvey moaned, but Daniel was preoccupied by the woods and what happened earlier, he seemed to be staring deep into the woods, almost hypnotised by the windy rush swirling round between the trees like a dancing ballerina, the leaves twisting and turning almost rhythmic in their flow, Daniel had blocked out all around him as he could see something in the far end of the woods which had caught his eye.
"Mate, come here a minute please, I think I can see something out there" Daniel, who had broke from his trance, beckoned Harvey over to where he was standing and Harvey still muttering under his breath came up alongside Daniel.
"What Daniel??, whats the matter?, are you seeing things again" Harvey replied as he craned his neck out and squinted his eyes to try and see what Daniel was looking at.
"What am I looking at mate? " Harvey threw a confused look Daniels way.
"Can you see right at the far end of the trees, look there!!" Daniel said excitedly as he saw some rather large shadows moving across the far reaches of the forest.
"Nah still can't see it mate, it's probably just people walking through the woods as usual, no sooner had he said that then they saw a group of people walking through the tracks leading out of the woods and past the back of the garden.
"See told you it was nothing mate" Harvey smugly replied as the group filed past them and smiling politely at the two boys as they made their way off into the distance.
Daniel seemed slightly upset that what he thought he saw wasn't there at all so the boys jumped down off the fence,
"Come on mate let's do something, I'm getting bored of staying in, let's go out to the den" said Harvey
"Oh yes!!! "Exclaimed Daniel " I was supposed to be walking Bucksy, you made me forget, poor dog is probably desperate to go out, come on mate let's get ready and go, I'm sure mum will be back soon, i'll leave her a note"
