"First Baby"

"First Baby"

A Poem by Dave

"First Baby"

Goodness knows, you came so quickly
hardly a sound to be heard. then a cry
a quick clean-up, a soft pink blanket
I got to hold you first, so soft, so pink,
with very much hair, I could hardly believe
I took you to your mother, you took my finger.
You took my finger, but you stole my heart.

Small, so small, who would have guessed how quickly
you'd grow in your ability to climb out of your crib
on the wall-side, hear a thump and find you on
the floor, beneath your crib, slide down the stairs on
your tummy, arms and legs extended above and below
finding you at the bottom safe and sound. giggling.

An adorably cute and lovely poem. Dave. Enjoyed reading it.

I believe, (and I'm saying this as a mom), there's no better job you'll ever have than being a parent. I fell in love with my son at first sight, but was a little scared too, all in one. It really is called the miracle of birth for a reason! Beautifully said, Dave! ...or should that be "Grandpop"?

What makes your story-in-a-poem so relatable is the way you use a ton of details, painting them in word pictures for bright & dynamic storytelling. Even tho I've not had kids myself, your details are so familiar, one can almost see the scene like watching a movie film. I finally did send you an email with the beginnings of your Atlantic City scribbles . . . we can continue any time you want (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

the memory of the birth of one's child is certainly unforgettable because he or she was created out of love and that love bring someone new... someone to take care and be affectionate with... i never had any regrets having a difficult pregnancy it was worth all the while

Endearing memories of your first born Dave. I can remember being terrified by the responsibility of having to care for someone so small. Fortunately, I adjusted quite quickly. Lovely lines, but don't they grow up quickly. Nice to look back and reflect on those early days though.

How sweet; I remember when my first was small like that.
Sort of reminds me of another piece--this one my own--with the same name. I'll dig it up and post it. It's called FIRST BABY, but it's about the first baby ever, Adam and Eve's Cain.
Loved your poem!
