The Cost

The Cost

A Poem by Dave

The Cost
I see her in the glow of the setting sun, so far away
Wishing her to come, have the night forget the day
Was it a day of sadness, who's to say, she went away.
Should I be happy, now that she's gone, I can't decide
I could blame it all, yes I could on my foolish pride.
Sweet kisses, passionate love, tenderness, were mine
Who could have asked for more? What greedy soul?
Shake the foundation of our love, ruin it, in time
moments of unneeded ecstasy I took, there was a toll
A toll I didn't know I'd pay, until she went, so far away.
At night I cry the love I lost, if only I had known the cost.
Will she forgive me, each day forgive me I pray
I see her, so far away, dancing, singing, yes I know I've lost
Once I was able to make her happy, full of life, to be mine.
Full of despair, feeling so lost, it wasn't worth, what it cost.

this really tugs at the heartstrings. everything has a cost, just a matter of whether we want to pony up or not. sometimes we don't know what we've lost 'til it's gone. we all take our chances.

I could be singing this song of regret every day of my current life for a different person I did not honor in the ways I should have. I admire you for being able to delve into these feelings so deeply, becuz I find I cannot even open the door anymore these days. There's no doubt about how this feels, you've used so many poignant details. Old age seems to be a dance around those pesky regrets! *sigh!* (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

We make decisions and not all of them are good. If only we could get a few do-overs, huh? At least the pain drives us to write poems.

I do understand this poem my friend.
"Full of despair, feeling so lost, it wasn't worth, what it cost."
We do learn the payment for foolishness. Thank you Dave for sharing your amazing poetry and thoughts.
