Summer Breeze

Summer Breeze

A Poem by Dave

Summer Breeze

The soft summer breeze is gone, along with the warmth of you.
Sparkling blue skies, marshmallow like clouds drifting.
They too are gone, turning grey and threatening, noisy
calm quiet waves lapping easily at the shore, gone.

Facing the oncoming weather, I think of you and our summer
running on the sand, diving like porpoises frolicking in the sea.
We built our sandcastle, towers, moat and imagined it our own.
The rushing incoming tide washed it away along with our dreams.

Star studded nights had me caressing you and you me, so warm.
The summer breeze is gone along with the starry nights we loved.
Gone and a chill fills the air,  I remember the warm summer breeze
a not so distant memory, but like you it went away, so far, far away.

This sounds like a melancholy song . . . I used to sing the song "Summer Breeze" (not melancholy) by Seals & Crofts while playing my guitar, long ago. But this poem is a different kind of song, more like my actual summers of long ago. I lived at a recreational area where many young people gathered for the summer, working summer jobs, but then everyone went home at the end of summer. I was left to live in the solitude of this remote area, which was deserted in winter. Your poem reminds me of how it felt when I would fall in love every summer, but then it would always end when the guy went to his hometown & we never got in touch again. I love the descriptions of summer bliss you convey (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I could feel a soft memory becoming cooler.
"Gone and a chill fills the air, I remember the warm summer breeze
a not so distant memory, but like you it went away, so far, far away."
The above lines. Feel solid and true. Thank you Dave for sharing the amazing poetry.

I'm sure it's tough to write such a personal poem and not want to leave anything out. To be in such a situation can rip up the soul and leave it in tatters. Writing is a small way to mend. Sam (below) is so right. If we could only go back...

Outstanding. Exceedingly well, you express beautiful yet melancholy images and feelings. If only we could reverse the clock and be immersed in such love once again.
