In MemoriamA Poem by Dave
In Memoriam
A lush green carpet across the field so bright as to hurt the eyes interlaced with brilliant marble forming an unmistakable pattern. They're home, at last finally a place to rest, a place to be honored. No more noise of battle, no more cries in the night of untold pain. The hush is broken only by birds singing their songs atop the stones loved ones weeping for those they lost who were protecting them. Again the rumble of flag draped caissons bringing new members to the brotherhood of those who served their nation and died. A splash of color the flags placed among the marble flap in the breeze. Far away on the other side of the lush green, the fading sound of taps. Bent in sorrow many in tears they watch the solemn procession. Still others look at the expanse of marble and ask, "How many more?"
