First Meeting

First Meeting

A Story by Dave

                                First Meeting

I can still see her and her friend standing there watching us
that first week of college. I was trying to learn how to play tennis.
if I could only hit the ball without sending it all over the place.

Short hair, dark brown eyes, multi-shades of gray shorts, crisp
white blouse, sweater not worn but tied over her shoulders.
Preppy down to her Bass penny loafers.

My fellow, would be player gets frustrated with me. The ball
comes at me and I send it soaring out of all the courts.
He cajoles, loudly, "Tennis or the girls?"

With hardly a thought I turn, "See you later, you want to come?"
He simply picked up his racket and started for home.
Both were cute, and I had already made up my mind.

"Hi!  Want to play tennis?"  They both laughed.

This is great! I love the way it's laid out like a little straightforward story from a long-ago memory. Your good use of details (Bass penny loafers) reminds me of many aspects I'd forgotten! Good use of dialogue, too, which is unusual in verse (((HUGS)))

Some moments in time are so special that they're indelibly imprinted in our memories. Being about a girl, I can certainly see why you hold it so dear. (I would, too)

Thank you for your interest. YES! It is a true story. After four years of chasing her she finally let me catch her. In August I will have caught her for 54 years worth of a wonderful married life.

Cute little story. Is it true? And yes, I did have to look up how caroming applied.
When a story is this short, small (rather picky really) punctuation and awkward wordings stand out. Are you interested in them?
