Ohio

Ohio

A Poem by Mark Mendoza

Ohio

Shot down dead,
Words that pierce as the bullets themselves.
"What else must one do?" one thinks.
In a single blink,
Flowers rise,
In another,
Flowers lie.
In this bowed gesture,
Scents of feeling,
Sweep over all.
We shall all fall,
To be held up by the ground,
Staring at sky where clouds of heaven are found.

This sounds like an open question. Why would someone enter a mall or a music festival and simply shoot strangers at random. Answer, because they can, plain and simple. This short freeverse begs the question now asked all too often!

this is amazing...so tragic what happened in both El Paso and in Dayton....
yes, flowers rise but then lie in state...Crosby Stills, Nash and Young sang about Kent State..."four dead in Ohio" now a new song eclipses that one..."nine dead in Ohio"
when will it stop? there is so much hate in the world, so much senseless killing..
and staring at the clouds of heaven, we will eventually all lie on the ground or in the ground, looking up and wondering whatever happened to love and understanding.

and your gentle and very poetic nature, as well.
Another sad day for our world. El Paso and Dayton. Hard to understand the killing of the innocence. I pray everyday. We can stop the madness.

Hate is hate and there is nothing wrong with feeling that way. We are to feel how we do.
