A Poem by Mark Mendoza

Cement sea,
Teach me,
As I listen to the soul mans truth,
Throw me for a loop,
Bringing me back to you...

Sky today,
Appearing as a painting of my youth,
growing roots.

As I walk down sidewalk,
I hear a thought,
Not all ideas are great,
Yet some scream,
"For God's sake,
write me"..

Crossing the way,
Women, child,
What do I say?
"Hey little man,
Hey like man"...

This is the Art of walking,
down beside,
Common man's high-
way,
Stumbling left and right,
Streams of passing,
Days and nights..

Nights and days.

as poets, we not only speak for the common man...we really are the common man...i like this because it has that scent of humility...not all poets have...some who are good with words can be so aloof...
on their own pedestals...
The art of walking beside others...that is what we hope to reach.
