What Do You Say

What Do You Say

A Poem by Mark Mendoza

It's a darker thing when you cant think of what to say
When all your memory goes away
In an instant
So much pain so much feeling
Yet the light remains without seeing
You missed it

Its a bright world when you just say
All the things that you long to say
No resistance
A dream is not without dreaming
A feeling is not without feeling
I've received it

I liked and I understood the poem. Words and deeds not done. The things we regret. Thank you Mark for sharing the amazing poetry.

My own Dad passed away from a complication of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. Near the end - I don't think he was aware of who I was, nor of himself.

It's a terrible thing when your memory goes away.

I hope to die fully aware of anything and everything around me, in great pain if need be, but in complete charge of my mental faculties.

And dreams ? Maybe when I pass it will be into one of the nicer ones where I can travel down new and wonderful roads.

Nicely written Mark. Definitely reminds me of Dad.

Take care ... :)
I really enjoyed this piece. I liked the juxtaposition (as well as the unity) between the two stanzas. The very first line is particularly striking. Very well done!

Thanks . means a lo to me
this makes me think of my dad in his last couple years...he still expressed what he felt with intensity...but just couldn't remember much of what he really thought...he had already lived his dreams...and his long life with Mom...
he was missing what he had never really missed before...
