Devils Down HereA Poem by Mark Alexander BoehmFor Orlando. For the world. For peace.
For Orlando:
Seven colors That tend to piss people off More than the seven deadly sins. Why does a symbol of love Incite so much hate? Why do two men kissing Have to close heaven's gate? Just lay your head down It'll be okay, We can take it from here. The fight rages on But you've done your part. We may have lost this battle But it's just the start. Go on ahead and be an angel, Don't be afraid of the Devils Down Here. The only flashes inside that room Should be from fancy lights Or the snapping of a camera. When those lethal bullets sprayed No one even saw it coming Sanctuary to those inside But a big target to the ordinary. Just lay your head down It'll be okay, We can take it from here. The fight rages on But you've done your part. We may have lost this battle But it's just the start. Go on ahead and be an angel, Don't be afraid of the Devils Down Here. If she loves her, let them be, Is this not the land of the free? Why is it so damn hard to see The human in humanity. We're here, we're queer. Taking the wheel, Time to steer Away from hate Away from fear. Just lay your head down It'll be okay, We can take it from here. The fight rages on But you've done your part. We may have lost this battle But it's just the start. Go on ahead and be an angel, Don't be afraid of the Devils Down Here. © 2016 Mark Alexander Boehm |
