Chapter 2: Assigned Love

Chapter 2: Assigned Love

A Chapter by Mark Martindale

"G'wintar, I'd like you to meet Galila" said Gwilla with a smile, "She's going to be your mate."
"W-what!?" G'wintar cried in surprise," M-my mate? But I thought it was my choice of mate. And besides, I'm not ready to mate. Especially not with some female I don't even know."
"G'wintar!" His mother shot back with an angry glare," Look around you. Do you see any other females? Do you have an open selection to choose from? No, you don't. I arranged Galila to be your mate for the sake of the Red Pack Clan. She is one of the best blacksmith of the Detra Clan. The highest, more respected clan of all wolf kind. You should be great full for her even accepting you."
G'wintar was utterly confused. Never before had his mother talked about arranged mates. She always said love is never forced, but found. But he did have to admit, Galila was very beautiful. She was silver in color, and her fur seemed to sparkle when it was touched my the moonlight. Her eyes were a deep blue that had the color of the sky before the war turned it gray and dull. She had a look of innocence that you would see in pups when they got in trouble. The thing that stood out the most was the accessory she had on. The Detra Clan was known for their skilled blacksmiths. They mixed metals and gold with diamonds.
Galila wore just such a necklace. It was gold with diamonds on every link. When the light hit the diamonds, they all seemed to glow and turn into a small moon themselves. But most fascinating was the array of colors in gave off. Every color of Detra's arch after it rained. The colors flooded her fur and reflected off each silver strand. She changed from a normal silver wolf to an amazing color display. G'wintar had to give in and talk to her.
"You are so beautiful. The color in your fur and how you use it so well." G'wintar soon began drooling with out notice.
"Why thank you hun," Galila said as she smiled at him, "I'm glad you like me." Her voice was soft, almost shy. How can a wolf that is so beautiful and skilled be shy around me? G'wintar thought,  I may be from a once proud clan that had the best fighters, but after the bombing, the Red Pack Clan became a joke to all other wolf clans. This makes no sense.

G'wintar had his suspicions, but he ignored them for now. For this was a bittersweet moment. He now had a mate that was very beautiful and very talented, but she was not his choice. She was forced upon him without even getting to know her. In his thoughts, Galila walked over to him, leaned up against him and whispered in his ear, "G'wintar, hun. Can i speak to you alone?" He gave his mother a confused look, but she only laughed and walked back to the den.
"Well we're all alone now. What is it you wanted to talk about hun?" He asked  as her gave Galila a smile.
"First off, don't call me hun," Galila's voice was now strong and fierce as he sensed earlier, "Second off, I'm only here to get the forging lessons your mother promised me. Not to be your mate."
G'wintar was shocked. His mother didn't find him a mate, she bought him a female to mate with. But he knew Galila had no intention of mating with him. He wasn't even sure if she wanted pups at all. " So here is how it's going to work 'hun'" she said cruelly, "I act all cute and innocent around your mother, you act like everything is fine and dandy, I learn how to forge your clans armor and we leave for Detra Clan territory. Half-way there, and I go back to my clan alone, while you go, somewhere. Got it?" She stared at him hard, the innocent look in her eyes long gone. How could this poor excuse for a male wolf think her could have my beauty for himself? Galila is wanted by all males and won't settle for you!

"Sounds good to me," G'wintar said laughing, "Lets go get you those lessons so you can head back home." Now Galila was confused. Did he not want her? No, that's impossible. She was so beautiful, he even said so himself. But why did he want her gone then? She had used males throughout her life to learn what she knew, but never had a male not wanted her or sounded so calm as this male. I know what i'll do, Galila thought I will play with his head, make him love me. and once he does, I'll crush his heart into a thousand pieces for ever not loving me.
"Wait!" she hesitated to draw him in, "I-I don't think I want to learn just yet. Maybe you could show me around your land?" She gave him a cute smile, flashed her eyes and brushed up against him. No way he can resist me now.
"Well Galila, if that is really what you want i don't see why not." G'wintar said evenly. Got him. Galila thought.
