Prologue

A Chapter by Mark Martindale

The wolves and humans have been at war for many decades. Humans hunt down the wolves for killing livestock, for their pelts, and for cheap thrill. After many years the wolves began fighting back against the humans. Attacking kids and stealing food and supplies like metals, weapons and ammunition. It was always back and forth between the two. If the humans burnt down the wolf land, the wolves took over a human city.
Over the decades, the wolves watched how the humans abused what they called fire. Or as the wolves called it Detra's light. They learned how to black smith and shape the metals into armor and spears and for the more skilled workers, shells for the human guns. Detra is the Wolf God. She created wolves. She was their land, their air, and their water. They felt Detra had put humans, or fur less demons, on the planet to punish them during the time of Detra's Downfall. This was a time when the wolves felt betrayed by their god and tried to erase her from their species. They felt she had given more to selected wolves with more beauty and strength. That she favored this wolves and left the rest to die.
This is when the war began and the wolves went back to Detra for acceptance and forgiveness. Now the war was almost over and the last of wolves were in danger. The humans just seemed to mate at such a high rate, the wolves where instantly out numbered. The humans out numbered the remaining wolves at what seemed a million to one. No more pups were being born for the pregnant females were slow and would be killed by the humans before they could give birth. But one clan, Red Pack, had territory secret and was hidden from the war. But one day, what seemed lick a giant bird with an ear piercing screech flew over and dropped what was known as a bomb close to their land.
The explosion killed most of the wolves and the shock wave crippled countless others. The fire surrounded the Red Pack land and a pregnant female, Gwilla, was trapped and left to die with her unborn pup. But by some miracle of Detra, the cave that Gwilla was birthing in, collapsed and provided enough cover for her to give birth. Two of her three pups died with lack of food and scarce water. The only one to survive was G'wintar, which meant, miracle.
G'wintar was a black wolf with three strange red fur lines on his back. He looked much like his father and possessed more strength then any wolf his age. This was odd because he was not well fed. He hardly drank anything, but he somehow had a full coat of fur and muscle that he shouldn't have. If there was ever to be an Alpha of Wolves and a Gift of Detra, this was the wolf.
