Bleak Outlook - By Mark Manning

A Poem by Mark Manning
"

Bleak .... :)

"

Bleak Outlook

They tell me it’s a bleak outlook ,and I believe them as I shutter up the promise.

Count wasted years on the fingers of both hands and feet .

Birds that sung have long flown to the far off places I’d planned to see,

Fear kept me rooted to the spot and it was not to be .

The shine in my eyes long deadened copper in my hair now grey , spring in my step now halted .

They tell me it’s a bleak outlook but they need not have bothered ,for I know it to be so.

Opportunity Squandered ...

That one made me shiver. I often wonder how many great opportunities I've let go by not realizing at the time. This is really well written.
