Night Bottle - By Mark Manning

Night Bottle - By Mark Manning

A Poem by Mark Manning
"

Comfortably Numb

"

Night Bottle

Night bottle .... red or white or rose,

takes the pain away ,seeps into my soul ,deadening sensitivity, numbing to contentment's stupor.

False bravado ensues ,it’s vine has gripped me ....as a younger man I’d lose it ,not so now I’ve it under control....just....daddy’s anesthetist when moon is his companion and the world tucked up in bed.

There will be no bear’s head tomorrow ,alive now and nicely removed from desires ache ,zanax minus the pills ....cotton balled in denial ,if you’d just take me in your arms holding my head to your breast accepting me putting your rejection of me on hold seeing no threat only my love for you in my being ....what a fantastic mingling couple we’d make ....but my mistress tonight is bottle shaped she’s white or red or rose ....I think of her as my heart chills ...and drift into glassy delusion.

Cheers...............
