![]() GUILTY PLEASURE - By Mark ManningA Poem by Mark Manning![]() fly away .......![]() Guilty Pleasure I could lay a blanket out for ya lay it right there on the ground, We could lie on it ,I could write a sonnet ,put some wheels on it and spin it round and round your head she said No....lets’ just lie looking at the blue sky imagine we had wings, think of all the places we’d go ,slow down the roundabout ,let’s get found out ,holding hands I’d lead you through the forest trails at night, starlite in your hair can a thought you spare ?,there were fishes in those pools and the ship was filled with fools offering opinions on this and that ....did we look like we cared as we mounted stairs as the creaky bed matched floorboards ,swinging clear of chandelier I whispered in your ear ......’’we could do something tonight’’ ...but she led me on and on in more ways than one ,until I turned around to find her gone .... vacuum that remains is a constant refrain ,pleasure guilt and shame reflected window pain in my heart picture frame no one is to blame ......and now walks are long drives are going going gone ....each birdsong a swansong ...flashback in anger lookback in love balancing like an Italian fountain gushing effervescence to waste on scented night air of lingerdom ,longing lungfuls of acceptance ,pleading for flickering black and white to manifest Technicolor. she said ‘’No....lets’ just lie looking at our blue sky imagine we had wings, think of all the places we’d go ‘’, she said ‘’No....lets’ just lie looking at our blue sky imagine we had wings, think of all the places we’d go’’ , I asked her to fly ........... and she did... But not to me ........ Mark Manning 2010 © 2010 Mark Manning |
