So What....I'm Irish

So What....I'm Irish

A Poem by Mark Manning
"

Out of Ireland have we come, great hatred, little room, maimed us at the start. I carry from my mother's womb a fanatic heart. William Butler Yeats

"

So what I’m Irish

So what I’m Irish , Great Grudge Great Hunger,

Carry a chip upon my shoulder ,Knock yer Block off if you dirty look me ..

Catholic Hangover pouring beer into a bloated stomach full of broken dreams ...

Talk the blarney ,soldier the march through American and European battlefields ...choking on the queens shilling .....crying for mammy dearest, howling for Jesus in a  terribly twisted lullaby ....So what I’m Irish...Great Grudge,Great Hunger ,Great ANGER  all bottled up and merry till it turns muddy and ugly and wants to fight ya but really hates and wants to fight itself... wrap me in the  green flag of self loathing self pitying confusion,

Take me in your arms darling and love all the hurt away.
