What I came to do

What I came to do

A Poem by Mark D

When the last drops of rain are tossed down
When your upward path is straight and smooth
When your will to go on is strong

When your horses wait for their master
When an idle hour is found to kill
When your begging for forgiveness is over

When smiles replace damp solemn looks
When you find your trust in those around you
When you lay awake content in thought

When you rest in peace in blissful sleep
When your past is clear
And you’re glad you’re here

You can throw my ashes to the wind
I'll have done what I came to do

The tides of life and treating them well. Treating those who accompany you well. The light retreating from your graceful eyes and being able to say with a one last breath, "I'm glad I'm what I was".

Beautiful in a slightly haunting way, with the lingering thought of maybe not a drift with the breeze. But great nonetheless. Thank you for sharing.
