Beneath the ground

Beneath the ground

A Poem by Mark D

I came to be beneath the ground
From warm free winds
To a cold dark tomb

I came to be beneath the ground
From love's young smile
To icy tears of grief

I came to be beneath the ground
From together always
To flower grave visits

I came to be beneath the ground
But I love this cemetery
And my death’s black monument

Because something happens when you die

Most intriguing.

Not quite what I was looking to see for my contest, but an excellent piece nonetheless. To me this is very inspirational. As I read it, I got a sense of history, of feeling from the narrator of the poem. In fact, I could easily see this as the opening poem at the beginning of a novel, or perhaps in the first scene in a movie, written in flowing red script on a black background.

Thank you for this.

I love how the last line leaves me wondering.

"I came to be beneath the ground
From together always
To flower grave visits" I absolutely love this stanza. Nicely done my dear.

The repetition and flow of the first three stanzas and then the slight turn at the end...very dramatic. I like the last line especially.
Very thought-provoking.

This is beyond conventional poetry. Dark, haunting, powerful!
The piece immediately brought me into " a cold dark tomb" which
is really scary and left me breathless for a moment.
The last line strongly got my attention. It is quite rare to accept and be open about this fact though almost all believe that something will really happen when you die either suffer or live eternally.
