Life's long conversation

Life's long conversation

A Poem by Mark D

At peace with life’s past imperfections
We had to come together
To effortlessly connect
On our second attempt
At life’s long conversation

Amongst a deafening crowd
Or my last intimate audience
I have always seen your shadow
In my mind’s starlit garden path

I can trust my senses and instincts
And it is plain to see
That the butterfly in the lighthouse
Is only there for me
Returning to the sun’s warm glow

I have never been known to love like this
As patient in silence
As enthused in aimless conversation
I can still close my eyes
To recall and enjoy the moment
When I moved towards you without thought
Meticulous in my memory of the feeling

If my cold hand is always cooling
And my warm hand always comforting
Never may I be rejected
Always may I be welcome
In the closest chamber of your heart

I’m beginning to write again
Thoughts to fingers
An effortless transition
On our second attempt
At life’s long conversation

God I love this one! the third stanza is my favorite. the butterfly in the light house! It reminds me of the state i live in Maine. We have the most photographed lighthouse in the world. I can picture you in it reading this. I love it Mark

This is a very sentimental, tender piece. I feel very at ease with myself after reading it. Yours first stanza
"At peace with life’s past imperfections
We had to come together
To effortlessly connect
On our second attempt
At life’s long conversation"
Oh, how I have had to deal with this, before coming back to my writing. I like the way this is written, in the fist stanza you are writing for more than one, then it goes on to just you and your feelings throughout the piece.
The 5th stanza also really speaks volumes and is powerful, I love the wording of your cold hand is always cooling, and your warm hand always comforting - there is something there that is both sad and hopeful wrapped into one.
My favorite line is "Thoughts to fingers, An effortless transition" This is so powerful to a writer, and many don't realize it. Thank you for Life's Long Conversation, a tender and beautiful piece.
