The King HartA Poem by Marissa M.I see a movement beyond the cover of trees; a light behind the willows, buzzing among the bees. My heart pounds for no one as I stoop to follow quiet, pretending to be a deer prancing through the twilight. The trick fairy light glides; a ghost between the silence. While
everything about me stayed without heeding its strange guidance. Against the fence of brush I pushed and came upon a clearing. With his back to me a white stag
stood, shining coat and antlers gleaming. The sun, as it set, spilled glory
onto him, until it passed beyond the West Nature’s song fell softly to its bed. I stood alone with the stag, a guest as he received the dying light, a blessing and a curse as king. He turned to me with human eyes and nodded, blinked in knowing. Without a backward glance he strode away through darkened trees. I remained behind in violet dusk as I felt stir my heart, a fairy
breeze. © 2013 Marissa M.Author's Note
