Tullamore Dew

Tullamore Dew

A Poem by Marinabeana

I wake up
My mouth is dry
Light is coming into the basement window
My hair and clothes
Smelling like cigarettes and whiskey
I gag into an open trash can
Vomit pools into it
And out my nose
Look over at you
Sleeping
Making small whimpering noises
I sit in the chair
With no pants
Wrapped in a comforter
Realizing I’m staring at your closed eyes
Your face peaceful
Maybe dreaming
I feel more at home here
Than I do anywhere else
I hope you feel the same
But I am unsure
Hoping someday, maybe
We can do something else
Like go on a walk
Or to the movies
Enjoy life
Perhaps just get the f**k out of here
But for now it’s this
And we drown together
In bile and booze
