Camel Crush

Camel Crush

A Poem by Marinabeana

I have come to love
The smell of cigarettes
Even though the aroma
Normally nauseates me

The fragrance of your skin
Is soft and warm
A trace of cologne
And something foreign
Comfort

I catch myself watching you
Feel my cheeks burn
The need to be near you
Like electricity

When I drift to sleep
Your face comes to mind
Cheekbones rising
Lips curling into a grin
Exposing your teeth

You smile with your eyes
But I can still see behind them
Something much darker
Something I want to see

And I don’t know
How to convey to you
That you are safe with me
You are okay

Because sometimes you look at me
Like you’re on fire
And you don’t have to say anything
For me to know what’s in your head

So I just lay on your chest
And whisper things to you
And hope you can feel my love
Whether it lasts or not
