A Day in the Life

A Day in the Life

A Poem by Marina
"

True story of my encounters yesterday. Characters are 100% real. Well Eddie's name is different.

"
I was watching Eddie
the mildly crazy guy of the town
who always carries women's purses
filled with
godknowswhat
staring at a man urinating beside a garbage bin.
Eddie was jibber-jabbering as per usual
His finger pointing at the man
The man kept on watering the pavement
And I tried to make sense
Now the man was shouting at Eddie
Didn't notice the stray dog that approached me
its eyes fixed on my sandwich
that was just sitting there on my grip
The urinator passed me by
Staring and smiling at me
Stinking of patriarchy and urine
-Deadly combo mind you-
Eddie was still talking to someone invisible
And the dog had brought a friend
I gave them the sandwich
I mean beef sandwich is always a good idea
And the dogs seemed to agree
I turned my back
only to see three girls trying to fit in a selfie
That's indeed a challenge
The dogs took it upon themselves
to protect me from this modernized frenzy
They must have sensed my despair
So they barked
The selfie was never taken
Hard to take photos when you run
Then the craziest couple in town appeared
an old slimy dude and his son
they wear sunglasses and filthy thick jackets
winter or summer
they don't seem to bother
Always walking side by side
I was in the middle
Had to choose
Either pass by crazy Eddie
or these two
As usual, I took my time to decide
Eddie came to the rescue
He grabbed my arm and gave me a flower
Just as the duo was passing us by
It was a plastic red rose
Romance is not dead
Take lessons guys
Eddie showed off his new purse
I told him it suits him
And then he took off
Probably looking for someone else
to make their day.

Love the title. Interesting poem. Busy day, but sweet ending with the flower. I'm happy for you. :)

Thank you Cyprian. It was an appropriate ending after all that weirdness!

:) You're most welcome Marina.
Affirmative.
A crazy moment captured so well in this fine poem.
Every dog has his day. The beef sandwich proves it.
Eddie is one romantic fella, handing out plastic roses.
Nicely narrated.

Too funny - Oh Marina we'd love to swap Eddie with our 'Crazy Horse' (he shouts that and beats his bare chest - no matter the season) who wants to fight every male he encounters from teenage to pensioner.
Just for a few weeks?

Like English Rab C Nesbitt and Spanish Rab C meeting lol.
Fast Eddie, he's the man.
Plastic red rose, he's definitely the man.
I like the sort of people you hang out with, class.
There must be a world cult of people who talk to other invisible people. We think they're mad. But they're actually an alien race studying us. I know this. Cos when i staggered into a tree last Saturday. The tree spoke to me in an alien voice.
It said. Frucking dripshit.
