The Sailing Trip (Ladies' Lunch Disaster)

Part IV: Desert Island Adventure: (Part 3):

The following morning, Andrea awoke around 09:30am. It was a much chiller morning with a light mist hanging in the air. She heard the distant sound of seagulls overhead. A short distance away, Karen was making breakfast over a small stove that they managed to bring ashore from the yacht.

"Morning Karen."

"Good morning, Andrea. How did you sleep?"

"Well for someone who has never slept on a beach before, I slept okay. Okay look, here comes Michelle now."

"Oh dear! She doesn't look happy at all, does she? What's wrong Michelle?"

"It's not good news is it?"

"No. I'm afraid it's not." replied Michelle. "I just carried out a safety check on the yacht. It seems that freak storm did a lot more damage than we thought!"

"What exactly do you mean Michelle?" Karen asked extremely concerned.

"We CAN get back home, can't we?!" Andrea asked.

Michelle took an extremely deep breath before answering.

"Well we can but we're going to have to stop at the nearest port to refuel. It also appears that someone forgot to check the fuel supply before we left port."

Michelle and Karen both looked rather sternly at Andrea.

"Oh cripes!" exclaimed Andrea. "I knew there was something I forgot to do!"

"Well there's no point in trying to blaming anyone." Michelle said. "We're just going to have to stop off somewhere on the way home."

Just then Emma came back.

"Where have you been Emma?" Karen asked.

"I just decided to have a quick bath before breakfast." replied Emma. "Is it ready yet?"

"Almost. Just another five miutes or so." replied Karen.

They told Emma about the problem with the yacht. She was just annoyed as the others when she heard this.

"Great stuff Andrea! Now we're probably going to be stranded in the middle of the sea!" she exclaimed.

"Look! There's no point in trying to blame each other." said Michelle. "We're just going to have to be very cafeful in how we manage the fuel."

"Breakfast's ready!" Karen called.

As all four women sat down to have breakfast, they all sat together on the sandy beach in a circle. As they ate their breakfast, Michelle noticed that the others were looking at her in an extremely lustful way. She stopped eating and looked at each of them in turn.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

For a moment or two, none of them answered. Andrea then said, "This trip really hasn't turned out the way that we had planned, has it?"

"No. It hasn't." agreed Karen.

"Yes. I mean, we WERE supposed to be in port by now!" exclaiemd Emma. "I can't understand why we aren't already there!"

Michelle lowered her head and for a moment.

"Actually, there's something I've been meaning to tell you three."she said rather softly.

"What's that?" the others wanted to know.

"The low fuel isn't our ONLY problem. I checked the map of our planned route."

There was a slow, collective gasp and then moan of realisation from the others.

Emma then spoke for all of them.

"Oh NO! Don't tell me we've drifted off course?!" she exclaimed.

Michelle nodded rather sadly. Andrea then said rather calmly, "How far exactly are we off course Michelle?"

"Between 5 to 8 miles. We must have drifted off course and ended up here; wherever HERE is!"

This was indeed shocking news. Very gradually the other women began to realise that there was probably no chance of them ever getting back home, at least within the remaining hours of that particularly day.

"So to sum it up." Andrea said. "We've been through a freak storm which ruined our clothes and our lunch, landed on a desert island, we've no fuel to get us all the way back home, and to top it all off, we've drifted 5 to 8 miles off course!".

Michelle nodded.

"That's not really a great turn of events is it?" Karen said.

"Yes. I don't know about you three, but I have no intention of staying here forever, as beautiful and as traquil as this island is.We've got to find a way of getting back home."

"Well then. We could try and have a look on the other side of the island. It'll be a bit of a trek through the jungle but we can do it!" Michelle said.

"Right then." Karen said. "We'll do that after breakfast. Now let's eat up."
