Camping Chaos (The Tent Collapse)

Part II: The Camping Trip (1):

The following Wednesday afternoon at around 1pm, Miss O'Brien was waiting by her car for the four girls. She was feeling a little bit stressed. It had been a hard morning; she had to deal with a number of fairly disruptive students, had had an argument with one of her teaching colleagues and, to top it all off, she had had to deal with a class of extremely disruptive students. However, she managed to relax when she saw the four girls walking towards her.

As the four girls put their schoolbags into the boot of the car, Eva couldn't help but notice a bottle of rather mysteriously-looking liquid.

When asked what exactly this stuff was, the only thing that Miss O'Brien would say was that it was a new form of herbal medicine that she was going to try out and that ended the conversation right there.....at least for the moment.

Once everyone had got into the car and done up their seatbelts, Miss O'Brien then started the engine, put the car into gear, released the handbreak and then drove out of the schoolgrounds. Their journey took them over to the far side of the town where they all lived/.

Just beyond that was an extremely heavily-wooded forest.. Miss O'Brien chuckled to herself. This was absolutely perfect for what she had in mind!.

Her idea was that, using her magically-created tent, if any of the girls were in any way naughty, then they would spend about ten minutes inside the tent as a penalty. The whole idea was to teach them some discipline and this, she hoped, would then lead to a situation where her daily teaching would hopefully become a little bit easier.

Once everyone had gotten out of the car, Miss O'Brien handed Julie and Emma the tent and told both to find a place for it and then set it up. As they walked away, Emma noticed that the material of the tent felt very strange. It didn't feel like ordinary tent material; it had an unusual smooth and somewhat stretchy feeling to it. The other which was strange was that, even though it had a fairly ordinary looking front zipper, it had no visible tent ropes or pegs to hold it down and she thought that this was extremely odd.

When they reached a clearing, they cleared a space and set the tent down. And then the most unbelieveable thing happened!

No sooner had they set the tent down on the ground, then it started moving and growing by itself! It pulled and stretched itself in various, crazy ways, eventually standing up as a seemingly-ordinary much to the suprise and bewilderment of the two girls.

"Julie! Do you see what I See?!" Emma asked rather increadulousy.

Julie nodded.

"Only a witch could have done something like that!" she remarked.

"No way!"

"Oh Come on Emma! Think about it! Only some form of magic could do that!"

"Are you saying that Miss O'Brien is a witch?! I don't believe it!" replied Emma.

"Well you can ask her then!" Julie replied.

"Ask me what exactly Julie?!" Miss O'Brien said, nearly giving Julie a fright.

"Oh Emma wants to know if you're a witch!" Julie asked.

"Now! What on earth would make you think THAT?!" replied Miss O'Brien rather casually and innocently, her arms folded.

"Well. You've got to admit Miss. Tents don't just move on their own like that one just did!" exclaimed Julie pointing towards the tent.

"Oh....THAT!!" exclaimed Miss O'Brien. "No need to worry about that! That's one of those new "Automatic Tents" which haven't been released yet! There's a friend of mine who works in the technology industry and he was telling me all about it!"

"Really?!Funny how we've never heard about it!"

"Well like I said Julie. It's only a prototype for a new automated kind of tent. Just think about it, no more ropes and no more pegs. It's something that will completely revolutionsie the whole camping industry! Now isn't THAT good?!"

Event though they weren't too sure about this, Julie and Emma had to agree with this idea.

"Now then." said Miss O'Brien. "Are you two hungry by an chance?"

Both girls nodded.

"Well then. I've got a new breakfast cereal here with me! It's called Super Honey Strength! It;s quite magnificent! Absolutely delicious!"

"Sounds great! I can't wait to have some of it." said Julie. "Oh...wait a minute! I think the cereal bowls are in that tent!"

"We'll then, you'll both have to go and get them." replied Miss O'Brien. "And why not tell Eva and Sonia about the cereal as well? You can all share it!"

"Aren't you going to have some if it Miss?" asked Emma. as Julie disappeared into the tent.

"Oh no! I never do! I have to watch my weight!" replied Miss O'Brien as she rubbed her stomach.

Emma shurgged her shoulders and then followed Julie into the tent.

Within a matter of moments, there were grunts and complaints from inside the tent as the four suddenly discovered just how small their tent actually was.

"Oh! Move your leg!"

"I CANT!!"

"Ow!"

"Sorry Sonia!"

"Hey! Watch what you're doing will you?!"

"Ouch! Watch you elbow!"

Miss O'Brien giggled like a naughty little girl as she listened to all this.

(Maybe now! They'll learn to behave themselves?!) she thought to herself.

She pulled up a stool they'd brought with them and sat down to wait.
