ShieldA Poem by Marina KayneA poem about a greek myth with Perseus and medusaShield
The snakes hissed and screeched and yowled. Medusa looked up, her face rather foul. She shrieked aloud and yelled 'look at me boy'. But Perseus swore not to be just her toy. He stood up again and covered his eyes. Picked up his shield and sword with the gleaming
sides. He held up the shield in the shining sun. Perseus then proceeded to run. Thrown to the side by the gorgons clawed hands, Crashing into the bumpy land.
He walked over to pick up the fallen shield. And as he picked it up he kneeled. He swung his sword just like a baton. Then gazed into the pool of bronze. He turned around just to see, Medusa’s face reflected in the bronze sea. He watched her in the reflection, A clarity of perfection. He threw his hand back And with a loud thwack, Off with her head And her body fell dead.
Perseus not turned to stone, But he was still chilled to the bone. He picked up is victory head Happy that he wasn’t dead. The son of Zeus paraded home, Walking through the brome. The hero then presented the prize. They celebrated with screams and cries. The shield is what saved many lives. The reflection caused them all to survive. © 2014 Marina KayneAuthor's Note
