Small Things

Small Things

A Poem by MarilynT

They drive us like cattle
across fields of resentment.
They fuel our hate
give birth to revenge
and consume our lives.

Disappointment,
Rejection,
Failure,
Slander,
Criticism,
all things people do,
we consider a personal affront.

Disagreements in religious beliefs,
Disproportionate incomes,
Skin color,
Governmental policy,
all things insurmountable,
leading to war and destruction.

All of these are small things,
Compared to what you may wonder.
Compared to asking forgiveness,
for those who are putting you to death
as you hang from a cross.

A pure heart overlooks,
all things great and small.
