On Society's Shoulders

On Society's Shoulders

A Poem by MarilynT

The darkness of injustice
hangs heavy and rancid
like clouds of spent gunpowder
over a body-littered battlefield.
The senses are attacked
by the odors of rotting
hopes and dreams
as lives slowly decay
under your watchful eye.
