Dreams?

Dreams?

A Poem by Marilyn My Bitterness

Did you ever realize
That I had dreams
Aspirations
Goals
Things I wanted to do
Places I wanted to see
People I wanted to meet
Did you ever realize
I threw them away
For you?
I grew up
And put those dreams away
In a box
Where I could look at them
One day far in the future
In a box
They would sit waiting
Patiently
Or impatiently
Did you realize
I put the world on hold
Each time you picked up that phone
Each time you'd call out my name
I'd come running
To you
Did you realize
I kept my hair long for you?
I lied for you?
I would have easily died for you?
But ninety days has shown to me
That your irregularity
Is maybe not for me.

It was a very touching poem because of its emotional transparency. Commenting on the topic, I personally believe that dreams and goals should not be thrown away to be with someone. Ultimately it causes unhappiness in the relationship because the hearts of the two would be pulling in two different directions. If this poem is speaking from experience, then I'm happy that you were able to make a sound decision to leave a person that you truly loved, realizing that they might not be able to love you back the way you NEED to be loved. As you can tell, this poem really spoke to me. Good job!
