The Lost Letter

The Lost Letter

A Poem by Marilyn My Bitterness

A ring, dusty in a box

Remember how much it once meant to us?

Now I see it, and close the door

It hasn’t meant the same since you left before

You made a decision

One that I struggled to understand

But regardless I followed you

And obeyed your command

“I don’t have to agree,” I’d think

“Just be supportive and not speak”

But we both knew it would be the death of me

And it was the death of me

You promised to revive me

Hold me close and make me see

How much love we once had for each other and

How amazing together we’d be

Yet as the days turn to weeks

And those weeks turn to months

And pretty soon it’ll be a year

I’m doubtful you’ll do such

If you had just listened to me

“Let’s take our stuff and run”

We wouldn’t have lost everything

Our everlasting love.
