Last bastion of pleasure?
Eyes are worn away.
Just take a measure
of time squandered each day
Sitting by the fire,
Controller in hand.
Asleep in the chair
Unaware of the band.
So much to see,
Games to play.
Time to waste,
Hours to burn.
Listen to the muse.
Time is short.
No time to lose,
TV abort!
Inside your head
there lies your brain,
Before you are dead
Please use it again.
Elevate yourself.
Take up your pen.
See the better picture.
Look outward again.
Oh, how valuable is life when you reach the other end,
How every minute counts to share with your friends.
How sweet it would be to leave something fine,
Inscribed with your love and to last for all time
That's just how it is, Marie-Louise, how right you are. It's so easy to be lured then trapped by TV, to realise time's past and this or that hasn't been started even less finished! Of course, we can and do benefit from TV., wonderful travel or nature programmes, old movies , etc. But there's so much else to do offline, to borrow or share for self and others, so much to learn, to capture if only for a while. Don't doubt you'll get together with those friends at some time and, put the world to rights whilst re.discovering it.
In fact, can envisage great days ahead for you between writing finely metered comments and inspiring me, for sure, and others most probably, to switch off and get out. Thank you.!
Well said Marie-Louise. I would rather spend time here; which I do, rather than sit goggle eyed, though I would be a liar to say I don't watch TV. And it does have it good points. The trick is not to be lured into a life of vicarious pleasure; therein lies the danger.
Marie-Louise, I am delighted to say, I am not one who sits watching the TV all the time. I am a selective viewer as I have far too many other interests and my hours are precious. There are many though, who do choose to spend their free time watching every soap religiously, not daring to miss an episode. Not for me, but if that's what makes some people happy, then so be it. A topical write, written eloquently which I am sure will raise much debate. All good wishes.

So much time is wasted sitting watching the one eyed monster in the corner. I envy those of my friends who have no television. All those hours to read and write. To make things, to work in the garden. It sounds like heaven to me.
