Red and Blue

Red and Blue

A Poem by Mariccino
"

I wrote this poem to bring awareness to seasonal depression, which I’ve struggled with every winter for the past four years. I aim to help promote early diagnosis and healthy coping habits.

"

Red and Blue

In the contrast between red and blue,

The sun casts a warm hue.

As the day grows short and the night grows long,

I sink into the lyrics of a song.

The sun hides behind the horizon,

Forging a lonely prison.

These disconnected nights feel cold,

I search in the mirror for a soul.

Light trails of passing cars, in sync with engine hums,

In tune, like the rhythm of blues.

The bright red in the brake lights give clues,

To pause, to halt, and breathe.

Emotions will seethe,

Evaporating into a sense of ease.

Soon I’ll pick up a broom,

And clean my room before Spring blooms.
