It's only a nightmare

It's only a nightmare

A Story by Marian

“Ahh!”  I screamed and then sat up and felt my forehead, which was warm and sweaty at this point, it was only a nightmare I thought. My alarm said it was 7o’clock! It was supposed to wake me up at  6o’clock! I was late, for the first day of summer term. The holiday had gone really, fast.. I vigorously put my uniform on; sky blue shirt,  navy blue blazer, blue and dark blue tie, jet black skirt and black dolly shoes. I briskly ran down the stairs, forgetting they’re 13 steps, I missed one and fell face first on the caramel coloured, stair rug.

“Owww!” my voice was muffled, I managed to speak when my face was covered.

“Are you ok honey?” Asked my mum caringly, holding a cup of coffee and gradually sipping on it.

“I think my ankle is sprained, please help me get up!” I replied, the pain was intense I couldn’t even move my right foot.

“Are you ok Marian…Sorry.” Apologised my Baby sister, Emily, I can’t blame here for saying sorry for something she did not do. She’s only 3 but some how she is very clever. At first I was really jealous of her because she had silky, shiny, blonde hair and sky blue eyes that glowed, in the darkest of nights and every one wanted to have the same colour contact lenses as her eyes. But she is very cute and adorable. After all, you can’t hate on your baby sister.

With great effort, my mum helped me on my feet. Any time I put pressure on my foot, I nearly fall to the ground. “Honey, you won’t be able to go to school today, besides your 2hrs late and you can’t catch a bus like this.” My mum suggested.

“Why can’t you take me?” I questioned her.

“Don’t be silly, you know I have to take Emily, to school and I have to go to work for money. Don’t get me started on being a single parent, your dad left us remember?” answered, mum trying not to cry.

“Wooooooohoooooooo, I’m Wonder woman!” screamed Emily, waving her school jumper on top her head and jumping up and down, on our expensive pure leather computer chair.

“Mum…did you give Emily sugar puffs…you know it’s not good for her.” I said, looking at Emily darting around the house.

“Oh, oh…I forgot! Ever since your dad left I’ve just not been myself.” She replied, reading the label of the cereal box that said ‘Sugar Puffs’, just realizing her mistake! Sugar is not good for Emily; she gets very hyper and has to burn off her energy (by acting crazy). Now Emily was climbing on top all the tables, pretending she was flying. “Crashhhhhh!” the table had tipped, and Emily actually went flying!

Luckily, Emily had landed on the sofa which made a loud, disturbing sound when she hit it, like an elephant walking on wooden flooring.

“That was fun!! Can I do it again?” Emily giggled; trying to climb on the table again.

“No, you can’t. For goodness sake, Emily i was so worried. It’s ok mum, we all have been disturbed by dad’s absence” Marian cried, trying to cover her tears while, dragging Emily off the table.

After struggling with Emily,Emily decided to take a nap because she had burnt all her energy, luckily her school doesn't start till 11o’clock so she could take a little nap. With great endeavor I was managed to climb the stairs. My mum told me to go change my school uniform, i was going to grampa Bill’s house. He was going to take care of me while my mum was at work. Grampa was an; old, crinkly man, with ears the sizes of a computer mouse (so even though he was old he can hear you very well), snow white hair, grey-blue beady eyes, brownish tanned skin and brown freckles. But if you forget about appearance; in the inside he had a warm loving heart and was as fit as an apple. I had finished changing. I wore; black skinny jeans with silver sequences on them, a red woolly jumper that said love (my grandma sowed it for me before she died), brown furry boats and a red woolly hat.

I was ready, mum helped me enter the gleaming, fushia pink car. I sat in the front seat. My mum had to wake Emily up now because it was 10:45 when she has to be in school at 11:00o’clock. Emily woke up. When she heard mum’s instructions she ran to the car, she always was obedient. Mum started the car, she put on the air conditioner and it made the car warm and cosy. I nearly fell asleep! It took ten minutes for Emily to get to school, she climbed out of the car. “Marian, please wait here while i take Emily to the reception office. Shes five minutes early.” mum asked me.

“Ok, i don’t mind.” I answered. Emily and mum crossed the road, at the pelican crossing. They soon disappeared into a wooden door and was no where to be seen. Mum came back moments later. “Are you ready? This might be a long journey because you know your grampa Bill’s house is in the country side. Ill have to phone up work when i get there, to say I'm going to be late.” Mum informed me, starting the car up again.

The car seemed to be moving very slowly. It passed tall, green trees that towered above houses. Beautifully, coloured flowers from roses to daffodils, that followed the sun light every where. You could see the baby blue clouds, that brightened the day up. We were finally there, mum got out of the car and came to my side. She opened the door and i put my arm around her shoulder. I limped to the red, colossal, shinny door and rang the bell. I could hear the bell sound, echoing throughout the house. I could see my grandpas outline walk to the door, he opened it. “Oh, what a lovely surprise. Deary me, whats wrong with your foot?” He asked, pointing at my foot.

“It was just a little accident, i wanted to leave Marian with you because i have got to go to work...is that any problem dad?” answered my mum, handing me over to grandma and taking out her phone from her pocket, starting to dial her works number. “Certainly not! Any time bye!” My grampa replied, closing the door and waving bye to mum.

“So...lets get you upstairs before you get seriously injured!” exclaimed grandpa, helping me upstairs. “Ok grandpa and thank you for looking after me.” I answered, holding the railing, trying to get upstairs. Grandpa lay me on the bed and told me to have a nap. But the only reason for that was because he wanted a nap him self. He sat on his rocking chair and rocket himself to sleep. I could not go to sleep! I was starving. Decided to get some food, from the grocery shop around the corner. In my pocket i had a five pound note. That was enough for me to get some bread, milk and 3 Kit Kat bars. I staggered off the bed, dragged my right foot to the top of the stairs. I managed to climb downstairs. I found the house key antique lamp which was; under a white and black lamp and then I opened the door with it. Now i was ready!

They’re  no roads to cross so i was fine. Half of me said i should not be doing this grandpa would be so worried but the other side said you need food, go to the corner shop. So i did was this the right thing to do? I limped all the way to the corner shop and entered. “What would you like ma’am?” he asked politely.

“Erm...1 loaf of bread, 1 bottle of milk and 3 Kit Kat's please.” I replied.

“That would be £4.50 please.”He said handing me other the items, so i payed him with my five pound note “Keep the change” I replied. I started to walk out of the shop, when 2 men ran in, 1 wearing a green balaclavas and the other wearing a blue balaclava. They barged me and i frighteningly fell on the cold, tiled floor. They had guns in there hand and they shouted at the man that just served me. “Give me all the money now!”, while pointing the gun at the mans forehead.

“Ok...please don’t hurt me, that’s all the money.” Screeched the counter person, handing them over all the money.

“Good!” shouted the man with the blue balaclava.

They were about to walk out...but then they looked at me. “Hey boss what should we do about her?” asked the man in the green balaclava.

“We can’t have her as a witness, we’ll just have to shoot her!” shouted the boss, pointing the gun at my forehead now. I was filled with fear, I can’t die like this, this has to be a nightmare wake up! I pinched myself 10 times wake up!

All I can see is pitch darkness, have i woken up? Then i open my eyes...Were am i? I asked my self. I was surrounded with medical equipment, doctors and nurses.... “Marian!” screamed my mum.

“Clear!” shouted one of the doctors....i had tubes coming out of me and inside medical equitment.

“Mariannnnnnn wake up!” my mum screamed again.

“Beep, beep, beep” the sound of a box....was i breathing?

“Shes fine, she can go home now!” shouted one of the nurses, talking to mum.

I sat up and hugged my mum...

“Mum.....is that you?” i asked, not knowing a clue what had happened.

Moments later, i was out of the hospital. My mum had told me it was a hospital, she was now holding my hands and she took me to a car...a little girl was inside, staring at me, she looked about 5 years old.

“Honey...do you remember anything?” my mum asked me. She opened the car door and i sat next to the strange looking girl, she had blonde, shinny hair and sky blue eyes...have i met her somewhere. “Marian this is your sister Emily, you have been in a coma for 2years...we were so worried, we had a car crash, and you got into a coma, I just got injured i broke my hand and Emily was fine, she just got some cuts and grazes!” shouted my mum, making puddles of tears. “Marian i missed you!” cried Emily. I started to remember i had a dream in my coma...i hurt my foot then i was about to be shot. Was it a dream or was it a nightmare? I’ll never know but at least I’m actually awake not dreaming...
