Resume

A Poem by Maria M.

Fill this out,

sign your name,

bring it back,

start the game.

This is how I can see your life

all spelled out in black and white

a name, an age, a gender too,

Social Security Number, address,

even a skin color if you choose.

A way to reach you

one way or two,

and a reference who can

identify you.

The GPA you received in school,

and the certifications

that qualify you.

But

never a love,

nor a reason for breath,

never a story,

nor a path

nor a tale that cannot end.

Never a brother or sister

whom you raised on your own,

nor the backbreaking work

for that damn 4.0.

Never is there a space

for you to answer and explain

just where you came from

or what you have seen.

Never does that all knowing "they"

Simply give you a page

to explain

the answer to the question

they all beg of you to say:

"Who are you?"

they pretend is their question

their goal.

But

really what it is,

what they want from your pen,

is your

name,

number,

and rank,

and a signature

at the end.

That was realy amazing, how you talked about how most schools and jobs see you as a pice of writting than a human being.
