A Locket

A Locket

A Poem by Maria M.

Tell me how to love again.

Tell me how to love at all.

Tell me where all the pieces are

And I will promise not to fall.

Show me what life is supposed to be.

Show me how to live it.

Show me the way to walk to next to you

And I promise I can do it.

Give me the strength to stand on my feet.

Give me space to breathe.

Give me just one reason to believe you,

And I'll be what your dreams conceive.

But tear my love away

from this bruised, pathetic heart.

And break what will is left,

In this beaten spit of mind.

And you will shatter

The last shards of strength

Which lay scattered at my feet.

And though I will probably follow

Though I will let you force me down

That person that you envision

Will be nowhere to be found.

I will slip away,

An apparition to the blind.

But you may keep my heart

A gift with no return

And hold it in your hand

As you watch the pieces burn.
