I Once Was You

I Once Was You

A Poem by Maria Retz
"

The best teacher is he who has tried it himself.

"

Once - I was everything that you are now

Once - I did the exact same things that you intend to do
Once - I cried, just as much as you now despair
Once - I learned to live as you now learn

But - I never knew how much my inner would allow
No - I never fully understood, before I met you
Oh - I never knew it would my life impair
So - instead of pleasure, I feel my spirit burn

Why - can we not change the things that were?
Why - are we to live with sense of guilt?
Why - can I not just breathe in fresh air?
Why - was it only to help you not to wilt?

There is an interesting sense of sacrifice in this piece, as you find that you cannot change - but you hope that perhaps another will learn from your mistakes, perhaps? I spend time out in left field quite a bit, but that is what I see here and what I know for the most part - that I always seem to repeat the same mistakes, never learning from them... but recently, I have hoped that others can learn from my story and not make the same mistakes themselves.

great poem. I think you shall take a look in the line No. 10
you ask questions but you ask also the reader. Nice creative concept, it is a gift - to him, too. It would do him good to dwell upon and within it. loved it.
