Sleep paralysis

Sleep paralysis

A Poem by Black Branches

I got cold
This cold as always Caused sleep paralysis,
Being in complete darkness.
I didn't want to fall asleep But, I fell asleep.
Today I was thinking As on other days About you. Thinking of you causes white pain, I would probably compare myself to Orpheus Who sings to Eurydice.

I would look back to see you again.
Sleep paralysis.
Evil that unfolds within you.

I have heard of the sleep paralysis term, but not aware of any symptoms. I have heard more often, of so called nightmares and night terrors. With all this potential night trauma facing mankind, at the end of each day; it's perhaps a wonder that any of us dare go to bed at night.! More seriously though, it seems as if this brief piece is a lament of some kind; possibly involving (in part) a former lover or very close friend of the writer.? Even so, the writer clearly stipulates that "cold"; is the typical cause of her sleep paralysis. And, she expressed a fight against falling to sleep. In addition, to thoughts revolving around someone referred to as "you"; although that special someone seems to be amongst her daytime thoughts too. Thanks for sharing this, and I hope that you're sleeping peacefully; and somehow moved on from the cause or causes of this troubled mindset (as described). Of course, when people care for someone; such melancholia can sometimes occur naturally and inevitably. And, that obsessive side to it; can be a reflection of the sheer intensity and sincerity of fondness which brings it about. By contrast, less caring and insensitive people; often find it far easier to "move on" (so to speak). Thankyou for continuing, to open up and write ✍️ here.
