When the Butterflies Fly AwayA Story by Mari Baptiste
What exactly should love be?
Is it the butterflies in your stomach every time they’re near you? Is it the professions of undying love every night before bed? I wish I could say yes. What exactly is love? It’s waking up to sound of that person getting ready for work, and feeling their Good Morning kisses as you fall back asleep. It’s going on video calls without a single bit of makeup and just being comfortable talking. It’s looking at that person and just thinking “wow.” It isn’t the same feeling you get from the butterflies. It’s a lot subtler...more mellow. It’s falling in deeper in love with that person even when they aren’t saying anything. It’s when you don’t put your best foot forward anymore; you’re comfortable just being yourselves around each other. It’s when you can think of how much you love that person, even when they’re doing the dishes. It’s laughing at inside jokes together. It’s the soft kisses after a fight It’s telling each other to get lots of rest instead of staying up late together. It’s when you choose to love each other, even though it can get hard. It’s realising you love each other and can’t live without each other, even when the butterflies are gone. It’s realising that you love each other more than the butterflies. © 2018 Mari BaptisteFeatured Review
