Gift-Wrapped Friend

Gift-Wrapped Friend

A Poem by Mari-Sweet

My friends are dandelion petals,

but there is one petal that shimmers.

This petal was gift-wrapped.

I ripped the paper and

revealed a special friend.

This friend is the petal I cherish.

When I look at this petal,

my attraction loosens gravity’s grip.

I float in the air with it.

When it speaks to me,

my face glows like a candle.

This petal is the gift I never had.

This petal spouts off words of cocoa.

What sweetness my heart tastes!

It has done more for me

than any other petal in a lifetime.

Its protection over me is like

stratus clouds hovering over the ground.

My friends are dandelion petals,

but there is one petal that shimmers.

No petal is better than this one.

This petal is my treasured friend.
