Reversed Universe

Reversed Universe

A Poem by Mari-Sweet

If the earth were in the sky,

the clouds would be land

and birds would fly underwater.

The sun would be the source

of the world’s largest forest fire

and the moon would be one giant streetlight.

The stars would be grains of sand on the beach

and they would be glow-in-the-dark specks at dusk.

If the sky were on earth,

we would play hopscotch on the clouds

and fish would swim in the air.

We would run in outer space

and the solar system

would be the universe’s playground.

Rain and snow would float up to the ground

and we would see the oceans above.

This universal reversal would point our

curiosities towards the oceans instead of the galaxies.
