Hours searching
and considering designs.
What color, what image
will I decide?

Will it be tribal or Hebrew,
hearts or stars,
or a sign, a symbol
of this friendship of ours?

No matter the choice
it will forever be
a lasting reminder
of my identity.

So a permanent mark
in just the right hue
to my skin will be added
a brand new tattoo.

Yo I love this. It really takes forever to decide on a tattoo- and the searching of styles and images and colors is really so meaningful, just like the eventual tattoo itself.
My family absolutely abhors tats, they just see them as scars that mar their gods perfect design.
I see them as totally different- my own stamp upon something else work. It makes my body MY own, instead of whoever wants to "Claim" me. I have trouble with people thinking what they believe is what I believe too, and I cannot contradict them without major repercussions, so I've always wanted to get a tat so I have some physical proof of my true beliefs and passions.

Thank you for the feedback. My dad is against them, too, but it didn't prevent me from getting mine. :) That's what being an adult is all about.

It was more to share in a moment with a friend, but it does remind me of that moment, and the independence that I was expressing by finally flipping the world off who continually told me it was wrong to have one. ;) Oh...youth. allegorically...yes, this could be simply or not simply getting an actual physical tattoo...but it could also be how relationships can imprint a tattoo on our heart...we do get branded with each love one way or another.

Interesting perspective to bring up. I was preparing to get a tattoo, so I wasn't thinking emotionally, but you are so right. My heart bears more tattoos than my body. If only my heart had only 1 tattoo...but then, maybe it would mean I didn't experience as much love. I guess it would be according to how awesome the 1 was (is). I would hope if there was only 1 tattoo, the proper verb there would be "is."

I'm one of the few fellas I know without inked skin, couldn't stand the pain. It's why men don't have babies and wince of they get splinters :)

Thank you for commenting. I only have one, and there was enough pain in the one to assure me I don't need another one. Although, there are things that hurt worse before reaching child birth. :) Splinters for example...they're really bad! ;)

I like this! I thought it was going to be a metaphor, but it's simple and well written. I think about getting a tattoo, and never thought of writing about the decision making. It's creative and authentic and honest. Love it!
