Waiting for the Day

Waiting for the Day

A Poem by Margaret Marie Hubbard

If silence could drown me
I'd swim to the edge
I'd find me the soundest
ship in the bay

If words could cut me
shredded bits would be left
my pride and my heart love
hide from your say

Truth known
love grown
heart beats
busy streets

I'm blind from the light
of the care that you've shown
I'm weak from the fire
that you flamed to full grown

If tears could hide me
I'd run to the stage
I'd scream to the world love
and speak of this day

If hatred consumed me
melted puddles you'd splash
my life and my soul love
only know this one way

Lies spoke
distance between
heart beats
running feet

I'm cold from the darkness
of the loneliest nights
I'm strong from your words love
and wait for the day

The short lines and taught construction give this poem a pace that reflects the aroused feelings of the poet... I wsn't sure if there was a religious dimension underlying it ... I'd love to know more of what was in your mind..
