amor.A Poem by Margaret"At a touch of love, everyone becomes a poet."
I had never believed,
falling in love would be so soon for me. but it was just the way you let your eyes crinkle in a smile, and I was lost, dumbfounded. could someone be really that beautiful? I thought. you wore stars in your eyes and had a soul birthed by compassion itself. stardust freckled on your face, and eyes the deepest of all. they held answers to my questions and questions to my answers. you were a labyrinth, one that I wished to be lost forever in. could you ever read the love in my eyes? or was I just too occupied in letting them shimmer in fear and grief? had I known I would fall this deep, I'd brace myself, allowing my heart to crave more of you. alas, the thread that held us together, was happiness for you and melancholy for me. but I had always been sacrificial. for all the people I ever loved, never tugged a smile out of their lips because of me. my heart raced a thousand miles at that one look of yours, I felt like dancing on the clouds, with you. just you. maybe we'd weave a sweater of our memories together, and snuggle in the first snowfall we'd have. under the light of the moon smiling at us, we'd dance together to the song our heartbeats would synchronize. maybe all of this would be a sweet dream I would wake up with a smile. doesn't matter though, love wasn't always pretty. it was black, cold, and harmful too. so, my darling, if I was granted a wish with an assurance of fulfillment, I'd ask for a simple one. a coffee with you at dusk, hearing you giggle at the silly jokes we'd share. and perhaps be fortunate enough, to watch the evening sunset on your cheeks. ~M. © 2022 Margaret |
